"I. Want. To. Go To. There..."
Hello everyone. This is a 'slate' I showed before my section was screened at my Grad show this past December. (Better late then never, right?) Whether you were physically there to support or if you sent over some good thought, it means the world to me, so thank you all very much.

Update:
Things are still moving forward. My short if 95% complete. We were able to obtain some music rights from the brilliant bands, the Dirty Sweet and the Mighty Regis . Everyone should start listening to them because they're fantastic, plus you'll be that much cooler for being ahead of the curb when these guys make it big.
We'll keep in touch, and we'll let you know where the project is going, and when we'll have a screening for you lot.

As always, thanks for the support, especially if you've been visiting/viewing with us for awhile now.

"Never follow a homeless person to a second location"-- I know, I know... we've been gone for quite awhile. But that doesn't mean that we haven't been doing our 'thang' (that's cool people talk for "thing).

Evita is working... in the industry! She's an Associate Producer at Formosa Films, LLC. She's doing great and working up that ladder. Soon, we'll all be working for her.

Alice is in the midst of her project "Boba & Melon Gum," which is a parody on Jim Jarmucsh's "Coffee and Cigarettes." In the meantime she has shot a few spec spots for fun, and got to work with her cool friends.

Also, Alice has been fortunate and been blessed with some good news regarding her P.S.A. she shot last summer, "G.G. Meeting." The spot has won several accolades including a Bronze ADDY Award (LA level), a Gold ADDY Award (District level), and a finalist in the National ADDY Awards. Furthermore, the piece has won a Bronze TELLY Award and was Shortlisted for the Young Director Award at Cannes Film Festival. The piece is continuing to gain exposure including being showcased at New York's Lincoln Center and during the Live Earth Simul-Broadcast this past year.

Thanks to everyone for your support and continued fan-ship. We really appreciate it. And now, here are the spec spots Alice has failed to post, until now. As always, feel free to enjoy.

a Cohorts Moment: at the Beach.

"I love lamp. ... I love lamp!" -- Once again, this is me putting some concepts about breaking the fourth wall and playing with the expected (or introducing the unexpected) into fruition. We had a lot of fun making this because it was basicall the four of us messing around at the beach and eating all day. It was amazing! And because I hadn't been to the beach in about 3 years, it was a great little break for me.

Many thanks to my wonderful, special friends whom I miss dearly when I'm not hanging out with them.

"It's for realsies"--This is my public service announcement I did through my school for the United Nations and their climate change conference they're holding his fall (2007). It was a great experience and I'm very proud and thankful for the people that surrounded and supported me for this project. I love it and I hope you do too.

"Not 'infamous'...but 'In'-'Famous'." -- This was done for a quick 'test-assignment' (test becuase the instructor wanted to see the concept tested, and assignment because he assigned for the test footage). And this is an amalgam of concept, a real life observance and my feeble attempt to adapt from a comedic influence of mine. The best part of this was the good times that was had, despite the many flubs and many re-takes.

"Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?"-- Howdy folks! It has been awhile, eh? Still, we'd like to thank you for your continued support and interests in our little site (blog).

This was my third assignment of four (the fourth yet to be made) from my Digital Cinematography class (I didn't put up the other two because they are less narrative). The objective/title of this assignment was: "Things in the way [of the lens]." To experiment/utilize, the limitations of DV's medium and to exploit the ambiguity with the lens.

On a non-Cohorts related note, earlier this summer a group of my friends from UCI participated in the 48 Hour Film Project in San Diego. The rules for the competition required us to write, film, edit and score our own music to a 7 minute short in 48 hours. We also had to include in our film a character called Sally or Sam Brown the event planner, a beach towel and the line of dialogue, "What would Elvis do?." The genre we were given was action/adventure.

We walked away with three awards for La Toalla del Rey:

I am incredibly proud to say that I was part of this short and am pleased to say that this same crew just wrapped filming today on my latest project, "Cassandra" which will be done next week. (YOU GUYS ROCK!! GO LA TOALLA!!!)

This is a mock PSA (Public Service Announcement) based on, about, and of my date of birth.

The only real video project I did this term, it was an incredibly "inhouse" production. Excluding the brilliant grip work by the talents Evita and Alex, the lighting, camera, editing (color correction, Motion, Photoshop) and music was done by your's truely. :D

There are more lines/bits to the piece, I just haven't edited them yet (this is all I wanted to show for the class presentation). So when I get cracking on those, they'll be up wickedy-split! For now, happy viewing!!!

"How do you play?"

"Not now, Arctic Puppet..."-- This is a commercial concept for the crossword boardgame, SCRABBLE, from Parker Brothers. There were a couple open-ended assignments in two of my classes, so I just made sure that this spec fulfilled the requirements of those two classes (two brids with one stone, YES!). Ideally, and when I get better at telling tighter visual stories, this will be a more traditional 30-45 second spot. I actually see this as one in a series of commercials, so maybe in the future the other installments will be up. Enjoy.

I decided to do a mood piece (partially inspired by my favorite director Wong Kar-Wai) but specifically a fear mood piece. I wanted to do something different and I'm glad that I ventured out of my safety zone. ^^ Anyway, it has its flaws, but it's still my baby. Press play, wait to load, and enjoy! A message from Cohorts Pictures: To anyone who creates...

"What we do in life, echoes in eternity"-- This is, surprisingly enough, the first project that Evita and I worked together independently (meaning it wasn't an assignment). We really wanted to do something over [winter] break and I thought it would be fun to do this wee moment I had in mind (Evita was kind enough to oblige and do it).

It's funny how in the craziest of times, simple words -simple, yet elegant words- can pump that last breath of air into your system when you need it the most. I had such an experience and wanted to share it with others, that is where this comes from. So, this is to all and anyone out there that creates, believes in fluid emotions and/or situations, or whoever has felt fettered by some internal demon, this is for you.

Hopefully, the work ins't so shabby and you get what I'm saying here.

My Popcorn

"What we've got here is failure to communicate"-- This is another short from my time at ACAN (Summer '04) and this being the product of my long-shot assignment. This is all one take. I didn't write a story, I just had the concept of the kind of fun conversations that creep up in friendly social gathering and that's how this came into play. The actors came up with their own dialogue- I just told them where to walk and where to expect the camera. Although the dialogue isn't the focus it's hard not to lean in and want to catch everything that they are saying because it's too funny.

So, grab yourself a small bowl of popcorn (becuase it's only 5 min. long) and enjoy "My Popcorn". (You see what I did there, with the word 'popcorn'?)

New name, new site

Alice and Evita have been friends for quite awhile now. And over the years they have formed a unique bond that not only complements each other but harmoniously contrasts each other, bringing to you, hopefully, some new and refreshing creative entertainment. Let's go back a bit. These two girls have dabbled in the many facets that cinema and theatre have to offer (i.e- photography, screenwriting, acting, singing, dancing, music, working as stagehands and proptresses...) and have come to realize that film/motion picture/cinema is the thing that satisfies their artistic hunger.

We are Cohorts.

Okay, so now that Alice has had her fun talking about us in third person, I'll continue by explaining that we used to call ourselves Wet Fries Productions, but after some discussion about longevity and"grown-up soundingness" we decided that Cohorts Pictures might be a better choice for our budding production company. This blog is a makeshift site for us to showcase our work until we've accumlated enough to launch our own website (yes, that means we'll someday have a spiffy URL like cohortspicture.net or something of the sort). In the meantime, we've discovered a great resource in Google Video. For now, we'll be hosting our videos from there so the quality and speed with which you may enjoy our stuff may be hampered a bit, but please bear with us. After all, someday you'll be able to say you witnessed the beginning of a partnership that will someday take over Hollywood...maybe. ;)

Anyway, comments of praise or criticism, suggestions or random comments are always appreciated. Remember, Alice and I anxiously check this site more often than either of us would like to admit (Alice: that's true) and your comments will surely brighten our day.

We hope to be continuously posting up our work as we create it, so bookmark us and stay ontop of what us Cohorts are up to. ;)

As Evita has said, we are a budding production company as much as an expanding one and that's with your support (join us won't you, you won't regret it). Just keep in touch and say what you want to say how you want to say it (try it in third person it's fun). We are not the types to fade away into the blackhole of internet blogging. Trust us, we are quite persistent and we are here to create, entertain and stay.
